EU protective clothing flame retardant test standard requirements analysis

Flame-retardant protective clothing refers to protective clothing that is ignited, flame-fired, and flammable, in a certain period of time. Flame-retardant protective clothing is an important individual protective equipment, which has been widely used in oil, chemical, metallurgy, shipbuilding, fire protection, defense and open flames, exudes sparks, molten metal and flammable substances. The demand is great, and It will continue to rise within 10 years.

When the flame retardant protective clothing market is expanding, the corresponding technical regulations are needed to evaluate their flame retardant performance. Today, we will briefly introduce three EU protective service test standards.
EN ISO11611 welding and similar fabrication protective clothing
This standard mainly requires specific requirements for welding and similar processes, materials, safety, size markers, and hoe, etc., replaced the original There is a standard EN 470-1. Related flame retardant tests are performed in accordance with ISO 15025: 2000 standard, including two test methods for surface combustion and bottom combustion. According to the type of material, one or two methods can be selected for testing.
For surface combustion testing, the material must meet the following requirements:
(1) Any test sample cannot be combused to the fabric edge or the upper end of the fabric after ignition.
(2) Any test can not be formed after ignition.
(3) Any test can not be burned after ignition or a melt fall.
(4) The average renewal time must be less than or equal to 2s.
(5) The average flammable time must be less than or equal to 2s.
For the bottom combustion test, the material must satisfy all the requirements other than the above except (2). EN ISO 11611 is divided into Class 1 and Class2, two levels of technical indicators, and materials must meet the requirements specified in the above surface and bottom combustion.
EN ISO 11612 operating worker protective clothing in high temperature environments
This standard is mainly for the overall performance, structural design, and size stability of operating workers protective clothing (except fire and welding protective clothing) in high temperature environments. The spread of flame spread, heat resistant and melted metal performance, size marker and hoe requirement, replaced the original standard EN531. The flame retardant test method is implemented in accordance with the ISO 15025 standard, and the flame retardant performance requirements can be referred to the requirements of the flame retardant performance, but the EN ISO 11612 standard does not divide the security level.
EN ISO 14116: 2008 Protective Service - Insulation and Fire - Restricted Fire Spread Materials, Components and Clothing
This standard is made of materials, material components, and clothing of clothing to limit flame. It is stipulated that the original standard EN 533 is replaced. The flame retardant test method is performed in accordance with the surface combustion method in the ISO 15025 standard, limiting the flame vinesThe demand is divided into Index 1, Index 2 and Index 3:

Index 1: a Any test sample flame minimum edge or holes cannot reach the top or vertical edge of the sample. b Any testing does not have a combustion drip drop. C Any test sample is not extended from the carbonation region to an unbrocess region.
INDEX 2: Index 1 specified (1), (2), (3), and (4) any testing cannot have a hole generation.
Index 3: Index 2 specified (1), (2), (3), (4) and (5) any single detection sample will not exceed 2s.

From the above EU's three protective clothing standards, it can be seen that the flame retardant testing method refers to ISO 15025 standards. The EN ISO 11611 and EN ISO 11612 can select one or two of surface combustion and bottom combustion depending on the type of protective fabric. Two standards specify the same flame retardant requirements, but EN ISO 11611 divides the protection level into Class1 and Class2, while the EN ISO 11612 does not partition. EN ISO 14116 adopts a surface combustion method. For flame retardant requirements, EN IS
O 14116 is divided into INDEX 1, INDEX® 2, and INDEX 3, and the flame retardant requirements of the material are getting stricter. In addition to the combustion methods and requirements of the specified direct contact flame, the EU standard system also puts forward control requirements from the human body to heat-resistant endurance, heat shrinkage performance, thermal conductivity, radiation protection performance, contact thermal protection performance, etc. , The evaluation range is more comprehensive.
